He's Here!!

At 10am Jared and I went to the hospital, signed in, and got prepped and ready to deliver a baby. By 12:15 I was in the O.R. ready. My spinal block went great.... everything went really well. Jared said that once they got the head out, our little boy opened his eyes and looked all around. And at 12:44pm
ETHAN JARED ALLEN
came into our world. Jared went with him to snap some pictures and to make sure that everything was okay while I was being put back together and then later came and told me that our little dude--- weighed 9 lbs 3 ounces and was 20 inches long!!!
He has dark hair and is such a cute little bug. I think we'll keep him. :) I will post pictures tomorrow.... PROMISE.

35 Weeks and all is....... who knows.

Yesterday I hit the 35 week mark. YIPPEE! This week I spent 2 days at the doctors office. Tuesday I was at my regular doctor's office and the prescribed me with the lovely Glucometer. I've been taking my blood every couple hours and some test results are high, others are normal. I'm learning what is good and what is bad by my numbers. :)
Little Boy Allen- is measuring 7lbs and 38 weeks. But the doctors at both offices (my regular one and the perinatologist) tell me not to worry- that he's fine- doing good but will just be big. We won't go early--DANG IT-- and we will just keep doing the testing. The kids think it's fun to watch Mom prick her finger- Logan cried when we did it to him, and Abby won't do it- but likes to watch me cringe.
Still searching for the right name for this boy. It's a hard task trying to think of something that will be with him forever!!

Pricking my finger and testing my blood sugar levels...
For all of you who are wondering what in the world is wrong with me---- don't worry. I'm still asking myself the same thing. :) I went to the specialist today and it was a good thing. I was so worried about everything and the Perinatoligist was wonderful.
I went in and then had a big ultrasound-- where they looked over every little part of our little man. His brain looks good- saw the blood flowing through it and that looked good. Then went to the heart and the lungs- everything looks great. Then went to the kidneys. Still everything looked good. Looked at the amniotic fluid levels- they were only at 16.7 (when I went to my regular OB on Tuesday they said my level was 30+)
The Dr today said that my baby was a chunky one and that he was pretty sure I have Gestational Diabetes.
“When you have gestational diabetes, your pancreas works overtime to produce insulin, but the insulin does not lower your blood glucose levels. Although insulin does not cross the placenta, glucose and other nutrients do. So extra blood glucose goes through the placenta, giving the baby high blood glucose levels. This causes the baby's pancreas to make extra insulin to get rid of the blood glucose. Since the baby is getting more energy than it needs to grow and develop, the extra energy is stored as fat.” http://www.diabetes.org/gestational-diabetes.jsp “Because gestational diabetes can hurt you and your baby, you need to start treatment quickly. Treatment for gestational diabetes aims to keep blood glucose levels equal to those of pregnant women who don't have gestational diabetes. Treatment for gestational diabetes always includes special meal plans and scheduled physical activity. It may also include daily blood glucose testing and insulin injections. You will need help from your doctor, nurse educator, and other members of your health care team so that your treatment for gestational diabetes can be changed as needed.”
So- to start with, I will be monitoring my sugar levels through a glucometer. Before every meal and 2 hours after every meal. I need to keep my numbers within a certain range- that I'm not sure of yet. Then- if in 2 weeks that doesn't work, they will put me on an oral medication. If that doesnt work- they said they'd try insulin, but I should have this little man before then.
After this baby is born, you can be sure I am going to enjoy my sweets. But for now, Im gonna be on a pretty strict diet. :) I honestly am relieved that my amnotic fluid levels are lower. SERIOUSLY Relieved. I can deal with the glucose and sweets thing- but I am very grateful that my fluid levels are down. Don't ever read about it on the internet... it's pretty doom and gloom. But I can make it and I can do it.
Thanks to all of you for your love, prayers, concern, listening ears and friendship. It means a lot to me!!

31 Weeks and counting....
This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy. One Mom said----"I feel very tired. I get up in the morning, eat, pick up the house, and do a load of laundry, and by that time I have to sit down and take a break."

Tummy Measurement
One of my friends asked how big my tummy really was- I didnt want to take the measurement but then decided to, just to see. I measured 52" around. That's huge! My parents think I've swallowed a bowling ball, My kids keep telling me I'm big- and It's true. I'm huge and getting bigger by the day!I missed church yesterday because the day before we were celebrating with Jared's cousin, Jake- at his wedding. It was an all day affair and I was on my feet tooo much. Jared said that several church members asked about me. It is so nice to know that people care. They really do!
Jared announced over the primary pulpit that we were naming our baby, Gracie. I think that makes it official- but we are still waiting to see what she looks like.

Naming a baby girl

Three days ago, Jared told me he wasn't so sure about the name Gracie. That is the name we had been planning on and the kids call the baby. I was taken back because I thought we had agreed on this- but nevertheless- we are back to the drawing board for names for this little girl who is due to make her appearance the end of February.
If any of you have suggestions, names that you are willing to share, or ones you've heard- please pass them along. This little girl needs a name!
Thanks :)

Baby Girl Allen
So, this really isn't our baby. But it is what she would look like now, if I had a 3D ultrasound. We are 23 weeks and going strong! I feel her moving all the time, especially when I lay down at night- that's when she wants to play! She is breech right now although it doesn't matter because my kids come from Cesearea (That's what we call them when I have C-Sections!!) .As far as names go- the only one we agree on is Gracie. We don't like Grace, but we love Gracie - so that's what we've been calling her. I love Gracie Mae.... but we don't do girl middle names- so, it will just be Gracie Allen. Her nickname will be Gracie Mae for sure! The kids are so excited to have her come.... they keep asking if it's time yet. Nope. 4 more months!
