Gracie Allen

I have heard rumors that there is a famous Gracie Allen out in the world. Today I did a little "googling" and found out more information.

Did you know that Gracie Allen was married to George Burns? I didn't know that!

Trivia
**Gracie had one blue eye and one green eye
**Started working in Vaudeville with her sisters in a Irish dance act
**Suffered for years from migraine headaches
**Decided she really loved George Burns when he made her cry at a Christmas party
**Often had to read her confusing TV lines from cards hidden at strategic points around the set
**Wore long sleeve dresses to cover a scauld she received to her arm as a child
**Wore aprons on TV that were sent to her by fans
**Prepared food on TV but could not cook in real life
**Loved to Gossip (especially with Bea Benaderet and Flo Haley, wife of actor Jack Haley)
**Actually sewed and darned socks on TV
**Once kicked George in the rear when he forgot to open a restaurant door for her
**Always removed a piece of jewelery when going out so she wouldn't be "overdressed"
**Quit performing when the red light atop the TV cameras came on, because a red light meant STOP. (George had to have them covered)
**Only missed one performance in her career (due to a massive migraine headache)
**Was injured in a taxi accident but performed that day anyway
**George called her "Googie" in real life, she called him "Nat" or "Nattie" (his original name was Nathan)
**Was engaged to another vaudevillian while touring with George in the early 1920's.
**Was really a very talented, intellegent woman, quite different from her "Gracie" character.
**Never said "Goodnight Gracie" at the end of their show.
**She and George once taught Fred Astaire how to perform a dance.

Friends included: Jack Benny, W.C. Fields, Harpo & Susan Marx, Jack & Flo Haley, Caey Grant and Carol Channing.
